Asian Eyelid Surgery
The upper eyelids have an enormous impact on the appearance of the eyes and face. In about half of the Asian population, the upper eyelid does not have a crease, creating a single eyelid versus a double eyelid. Ptosis and shape issues also impact the appearance of the eyes. At Maia Plastic Surgery in Tysons Corner, VA, we offer Asian eyelid surgery that can transform the upper eyelid into the desired shape.
Single eyelids are a common trait, but some individuals with this feature are unhappy with the appearance of their upper eyelid. Without the crease or double eyelid, the eyes may appear narrower or smaller. A double eyelid surgery, or Asian blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), can create the desired crease to widen and enlarge the eye appearance. With a double upper eyelid, there are more options for makeup application and style choices. This procedure can be completed with no-incision sutures for some patients or an incision for those that are not good candidates for the suture-only procedure.
Asian Eyelid Lift or Blepharoplasty
Another concern with some Asian eyelids is a prevalence of ptosis or droopy upper eyelids. Asian blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) can address a droopy upper eyelid, removing excess skin folds that can create narrow eyes and impact vision. In some cases, the muscle in the upper eyelid may need adjustment to create a more “open” appearance for ptosis, or droopy eyes.
Genetics are the key factor in determining the shape of the eyes for those of Asian descent. However, there are plastic surgery options to reshape the upper eyelid for a double eyelid or a lifted appearance.
