Male gynecomastia surgery removes excess fat and breast tissue, as well as excess skin. The procedure can reform the male breasts with the desired firmness and contours and reshape the areola if necessary. Dr. Maia has successfully reduced male breast tissue and reshaped the chest tissue on many of her male patients with outstanding, natural results.
What is gynecomastia?
There is not one specific cause of gynecomastia. Male breast enlargement can occur with weight gain, but it can also occur without weight gain and in men of all ages. The breasts can become larger with excess glandular and fat issues, as well as extra skin. The breast tissue can sag, elongating or distorting the areola size. Some of the possible causes of gynecomastia include:
- Hormonal changes
- Weight gain
- Genetics
- Medication side effect
Regardless of the cause of gynecomastia, many men can be self-conscious of the appearance of larger male breasts. A breast reduction surgery, or male gynecomastia surgery, can restore a more masculine appearance to the chest.
What should I expect during my gynecomastia surgery recovery?
During your gynecomastia surgery recovery period, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions and an elastic bandage or support garment may be used to minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals after surgery.
A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.
The final results of gynecomastia surgery are permanent in many cases. However, the use of certain prescription medications, drugs (including steroids) or weight gain can reduce the durability of your results.
What results should I expect after gynecomastia surgery?
Gynecomastia surgery results are immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Most incision lines are concealed within natural contours.
Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover from surgery.
The final results of your gynecomastia surgery may take 3-6 months to achieve. Incision lines are permanent, but will continue to fade over time.
