Sculptra Injections
Collagen is one of the keystones of youthful skin. As you get older, your body produces less collagen, and your skin begins to lose its volume and elasticity. You cannot stop the aging process, but there are ways to slow the changes in your appearance. One option is collagen treatment with the use of Sculptra® injections, which we offer at Maia Plastic Surgery in the Washington, D.C., area.
What Is Sculptra?
There are many cosmetic injectables that are designed to add volume to the skin, but most are not collagen treatments. Sculptra is not a dermal filler like hyaluronic acid products – it is not for plumping the lips or adding volume under lines or wrinkles. Sculptra injections use poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to stimulate collagen production. The increase in collagen firms the skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face, but it can also be used in other areas to rejuvenate the skin and tissue appearance.
What to Expect
Since Sculptra injections do not add volumizing substances like hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite like other dermal fillers, results are not immediate. The injections stimulate collagen to be produced, but this occurs over the weeks following the treatment. The skin gradually becomes more youthful and softens lines or wrinkles. Most of our patients benefit from 2-3 treatments spaced at least a month apart to obtain the desired outcome. Results can last for two years or more – a yearly treatment can be used to maintain the collagen levels.
Sculptra injections can be used in other areas to provide a lifting and firming of the skin. One of the other Sculptra treatments we provide at Maia Plastic Surgery is our Sculptra Butt Lift procedure. This treatment improves the buttocks area by adding volume and firming the upper buttocks for a non-surgical lift.
Sculptra injections can help you restore the collagen in your skin without invasive procedures or downtime after your treatment.
